Job Summary:

Korea Liberal Arts School(KLAS), located in Yeoju, South Korea  is seeking a dedicated and experienced College Counselor to guide students through the college application process and help them make informed decisions about higher education. The College Counselor will work closely with students, parents, and faculty to develop individualized college plans, provide insights into college admissions, and assist with applications, essays, and financial aid. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students achieve their academic and personal goals, and will foster a supportive and informative environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Provide personalized guidance to students in grades 9-12 regarding college admissions, including selecting schools, majors, and extracurricular activities.

Assist students in preparing for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, etc.) by offering information on test preparation resources and timelines.

Support students with the completion of college applications, including essays, recommendation letters, and deadlines.

Advise on scholarship opportunities and financial aid options. 

Organize college information sessions, workshops, and visits from college representatives.

Maintain relationships with colleges and universities to stay informed on admissions trends and requirements.

Collaborate with faculty and administration to ensure alignment between academic advising and college counseling.

Provide guidance to families on the college selection process and host parent workshops as needed.

Prepare and submit necessary documents for students applying to colleges, such as school profiles and counselor recommendation letters.

Monitor the college admissions outcomes for students and provide feedback to the school’s academic program.

Keep up-to-date with changes in college admissions policies, procedures, and trends to provide the most current advice.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in college counseling or academic advising, preferably within an independent or private school setting.

Thorough understanding of the college admissions process, including knowledge of selective college admissions, standardized testing, and financial aid.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to students, parents, and faculty.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Familiarity with college counseling software and online application platforms (e.g.,  Common App).

Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.

Ability to build relationships with colleges and universities to benefit students.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicant who understands Classical Christian education. 

Experience working in a private or independent school.

Understanding of global university admissions, particularly for students considering international universities.
